1880s TWO (2) TRADE CARDS GOLD-GILT, CHAS H. HOMAN, PIANO TUNER, BOSTON, MASS.

Description

1880 Two Chromolithograph, Gold-Gilt Trade Cards for Chas. H. Homan, Piano Turner, Boston, Mass. A quick check of the internet shows his name in the Boston City Directory in the 1880 and 1890's. The first card depicts a young maiden from Italy, in traditional garb, carrying a brass pot on her head. The second card shows a Swiss maiden, in traditional garb and a lovely sunrays cap. She is carrying a tray or wooden platter and what appears to be a stein of beer. Both cards show the flag and shield for their country, and the background is gold-gild. These cards are in excellent condition with no surface or edge wear. A few of the corners are mildly bumped. Both cards were stored in a scrapbook, and do have some paper and glue residue on the back. Please see all of the photos above.

Very rare and fascinating "1880 Two (2) Chromolithograph, Gold-Gilt Trade Cards for Chas. H. Homan, Piano Tuner, Boston, Mass."  The Trade Cards both measures approx. 4-3/8 by 3" (11.2 cm. x 7.6 cm.)
Both cards advertises Charles Homan's Piano Tuning Business, which was located in the Roxbury District at Blake and Washinton St., in Boston, Mass.  A quick check of the interned shows his name in the Boston City Directory in the 1880 and 1890's.
The first card
depicts a young maiden from Italy, in traditional garb, carrying a brass pot on her head.
The second card
shows a Swiss maiden, in traditional garb and wearing a lovely cap with golden sunrays issuing out of it.   She is carrying a tray or wooden platter and what appears to be a stein of beer.
Both cards show the flag and shield for their country, and the background is gold-gild.
These cards are in excellent condition with no surface or edge wear.  A few of the corners are mildly bumped.  Both cards were stored in a scrapbook, and do have some paper and glue residue on the back.

Delightful and unique,  these "1880 Two (2) Trade Cards Gold-Gilt, for Chas. H. Homan, Piano Turner, Boston, Mass"  are a  wonderful example of how advanced gold-gilt and Chromolithography had become by that time in history.  They  would be a fantastic addition to any Victorian era collection!!!
